  15. <p>     DIED. Polykarp Kusch, 82, physicist and educator; in Dallas.
  16. Kusch was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1955 for experiments that
  17. yielded fundamental insights into quantum electro dynamics.
  18. Born in Germany, Kusch immigrated to the U.S. and worked for
  19. Bell Laboratories. In 1949 he became chairman of Columbia University's
  20. physics department.
